A few days late: the rebuilt app opens for beta testing on 6 November

The rebuilt Barometer Reborn missed 2 November by a few days. From Friday, 6 November 2026, it is an open beta on Google Play. How to join and what to expect.

The plan was to release the rebuilt Barometer Reborn on Monday, 2 November. That did not happen. The last stretch took longer than expected, and rather than push out something that was not ready, I decided to wait. Software projects slip. This one slipped by a few days.

The good news: it is ready for you to try.

From Friday, 6 November 2026, anyone with an Android phone can join the beta on Google Play.

How to join

  1. Open the invitation link on your phone or computer, signed in with the Google account you use on Google Play: play.google.com/apps/testing/net.hubalek.android.apps.barometer
  2. Tap Become a tester.
  3. Install or update Barometer Reborn from Google Play as usual. It can take a few minutes before Google Play offers the beta build.

The link starts working on Friday. If you open it earlier, Google Play may not show the button yet.

What you get

Everything described in the ten-year post: the app works on phones without a barometer, it has three tabs with nothing hidden behind menus, places keep their readings apart, and alert rules are easier to write.

What to expect

A beta is a build that is nearly finished but has not yet been through everyone’s phones. Most things should just work. Some may not, and that is exactly what the beta is for.

The beta is an update of the same app, not a separate one. The first time it starts, it moves your places, alert rules and measurement history across. There is nothing to reinstall.

Tell me what you find

If something breaks, looks wrong or is confusing, write to support@hubalek.net. It helps a lot to include your phone model, the Android version and a short description of what you did before the problem appeared. A screenshot is worth more than a paragraph.

You can also leave feedback for testers directly on the app’s Google Play page.

How to leave

Open the same invitation link and tap Leave the program. You will get the regular version again with the next public update. To switch back right away, uninstall the app and install it again from Google Play, but note that uninstalling removes the history stored on the phone.

And everyone else?

If you would rather wait for the finished version, you do not need to do anything. It will arrive as a normal update once the beta has done its job. I will announce it here and on the RSS feed.

Thank you for your patience, and thank you to everyone who joins the beta.
